Description

A thyroid nodule is a lump or growth in the butterfly-shaped thyroid gland at the base of the neck. Most nodules are benign (not cancerous) and cause no symptoms, but some can grow large enough to affect swallowing or breathing, be caused by conditions like Hashimoto's disease, or rarely, be malignant. Treatment depends on the nodule's size, characteristics, and whether it's cancerous.
